In the Wesleyan Quadrilateral practical experience provides insights on the applicability of scripture to daily living. Here we are particularly interested in experience with peaceable methods for dealing with war and other conflict situations. We examine not only what religious people do but also secular undertakings that achieve the intent of scripture.
We first examine how during the 20th century nonviolent action has emerged as a practical tool for dealing with conflict and oppression. Then we look at methods for preventing armed conflict between and within nations. We review experience with processes for resolution of armed conflict and ways to achieve reconciliation of parties after conflict ends. We also consider prominent 20th century prophets and theologians who were actively engaged in public affairs in matters of peace and justice.
